AeD-V4-Duellist for DazStudio/P5+

A simple little Duellist Set for V4... There are six props in the package — Two rapiers, with matching sheaths, one swept hilt, one cup hilt, one matchint off-hand dagger and matching sheath. Both of the rapiers come with 16thC. style 42 inch blades, but there is a 'bladeshort' morph to reduce this to a handier 17thC. style 36 inch blade, the sheaths come with a matching morph, and load smart propped to the blades.

The set also includes two 'hand' files, and a number of prop poses and partial V4 poses.

The prop poses are to smartparent the rapiers and daggers to the right or left hands, to use them, load the weapons you wish to use then... Poser: Make sure the desired figure (if more than one in the scene is current, select the prop, apply the pose. DazStudio: Using the Scene Tab, drag the prop onto the desired figure, then apply the pose.

Partial poses for V4 are included, there are three basic body poses, these set the rotations for the legs, torso and head, to a basic 16th/17th C. fencing position, the three poses are 1. basic stance 'Ready', 2. an attack stance 'Have Some', weight shifted forward leading leg bent, and 3. a defensive/evasive stance 'Hah Missed', weight shifted basck over the trailing leg, and slightly to one side for balance. Each of the 3 comes in a left leg leading and right leg leading version, and in two sets, one for flat heeled shoes (16thC.), and one for heeled shoes (17thC.). The two 'header' poses with the text based icons, are partial zeroing poses, these zero V4's legs, torso and head to a 'standing at attention feet on the ground' position. There are 12 partial arm poses, left and right arm versions are included, and once again, the text icon header poses are partial zeroing poses for the arm in question.

There are also two hand files, a V4 Rapier grip, and a V4 Dagger grip, as per normal for hand files these can be applied to either hand.

The pack also includes a DAZ Studio material preset that works on both rapiers, the dagger and the sheaths. The MAT preset uses the improved Glossy Metal and Skin shaders, available free from Daz3D, and is intended for versions of DS from 1.4 to 1.8. Due to the highly defective nature of subsequent DS builds, no product support is offered for DS [link] builds and no guarrantee made that the preset will work correctly. The preset uses the dzSkin shader to add subsurface scatter to the bone grips, in the event of this malfunctiomning in DS 2.d.u, replace with either pwsurface, or a plastic shader. DO NOT use the dzdefault shader skin lighting model unless you want the bone to look like british seaside 'rock' candy. :-S

Usage
=====

Load, texture, morph and dress your V4 as per your usual workflow, load the desired weapons, smartparent them using the prop poses supplied, apply the appropriate hand files to V4. Apply the body zeroing pose suitable for the footwear in use (V4 Body Flat Shoe/V4 Body Heel Shoe). Translate, y-axis, V4's Body node untill the shoes touch the floor. Select the body stance you with to use eg. V4Duellist-BodyFlatR01 - Basic stance, right leg leading, then select and apply a left and right arm pose. Note, not all of the 12 arm poses will suit a particular weapon and stance, you may find that a 'dagger arm' pose wil leave the hilt of a rapier poking into the figures thigh, adjust as needed. The arm poses can easily be adjusted with twists of shoulder, forarm and wrist.

The poses have been designed to work with rotational limits turned *ON*. Where a pose requires that the limits be exceded, the pose will ALTER the limits (the ankles in the body poses). Using the Zeroing poses RESETS the limits to the default values. The arm poses alter the wrist rotation limits for a little extra twist capability in the wrists.

Poser users may leave leg IK turned on, the body poses can then be adjusted simply by translating the hip node for more agressive/defensive/evasive postures. 16th/17th C. fencing made great use of this sort of balance shifting, with an upright torso poised over a stable footbase, coupled with a passing step movement style, one pivots on the ball of the leading foot, and steps in to make attacks, pivot on the ball of the trailing foot and step back to defend.

Untested Unsupported DS [link] Functionality.
=================================================
For those of you using later builds of DS, you have a feature called ';Puppeteer'. Theoretically, you should be able to do the following.
1. Apply a left leading leg ready pose, mark thwe position of the ball of the left foot with a DS null. Set this as a point on the left of your puppeteer graph.
2. Apply a right leg leading attack pose, translate the body of the figure untill the now trailing left foot is on the same piece of floor (where you put the null as a marker) as if the figure had stepped forward , pivoting on the left foot. Set this as the right most point on your puppeteer graph.
3. Do a puppeteer interpolation about halfway between the two points, adjust the right leg of this pose to lift the foot slightly off the floor, set this as the center point of your graph.
4.Run through the interpolation between these three points, you *should* be able to produce a series of frames showing V4 stepping forward, pivoting on the ball of the leading leg and making a classic period fencing attack.

If this works, let me know... ;-)
